From 1525 until the 1800s, 12 million people were taken from Africa to America and Europe. African people were gathered at the port before being taken away some of them had their ears cut, while others had their tongues burned and all hair is shaved to prevent lice. They were also stamped with a hot iron.
One-fifth of these people who started their ocean voyage would not be able to set foot on land again. Because the captains trapped three or four times more people under the deck than they could take. These people laid on top of each other traveled for months without moving. Because they made their urine and feces where they were and lived with them, they got epidemic diseases.
